The first game in the series, titled Splinter Cell was released in 2002 by Ubisoft. The game recieved positvie reviews for its lighting system and its good graphics. The game sold over 3 million copies, making it one fo the best selling games on the Xbox.

Sam Fisher is called back into action after being on a long break to find out what happened to two missing CIA agents.     Chaos Theory

Chaos Theory is the third game in the series and is often considered the best. Still being developed by Ubisoft, Chaos Theory adds to what made the first two so good. Released in 2005 the game was a even bigger success then its predecessors. It was rewarded Xbox's game of the year. The game returned with a refined version of the Spies vs. Mercs multiplayer mode from the previous installment, as well as a seperate cooperative campaign where playes must work together in order to complete the misson.

Sam Fisher is back and needs to find out why someone would need to kidnap a computer programmer and how it is related to the on going war in Asia. The cooperative campaign takes place in Panama where you tie up loose ends from the single player.

Conviction is the most recent game in the series. It is the 5th installment and it came with a lot of changes. The gameplay is much more fast paced and uses the "Mark and Execute" feature that allows players to deal with targets much more easily. The game again features a cooperative campaign as well as a few coopertive game modes including Hunter and Infiltration which requires you to take out all targets on the map without being detected. The game does drop the Spies vs. Mercs multiplayer mode which came to a dissapointment to many. The game hasn't sold as well as previous titles but is still a solid title. The new gameplay was supposed to make the game more desirable to newer audiences but in the process lost much of its previous fan base. The game was also not released on any Sony platforms.

Fisher is out for revenge for the death of his daughter. He's left 3rd Echelon and can no longer trust anyone. He is a rogue agent with no rules and no one can stop him.

The coopertive campaign serves as a prologue to the game where you play as a member from 3rd Echelon and a member from its Russian couter part.
